On america's last penny minted

Yesterday america's Treasury department minted the last penny, as officially it is no longer being minted because of rising production costs

There were other solutions, as only issuing them in mint sets, yet for some reason mintage is being terminated. the real question is will this be permanent as there will always be a need for one cent pieces.
